Professionalization Workshop

In the week preceding the NAVSA/AVSA conference (May 15-17) and continuing on May 21, a professionalization workshop for graduate students and recent PhDs will occur on the La Pietra campus.  Topics will include: Conferences and Proposal Writing; Grant-Writing and Research Support; Publishing; the Digital Humanities; the Market; alt-ac; Tenure and Promotion. Catherine Robson and Dino Felluga will also work to set up two-on-one mentoring sessions for participants.

Each day will include guest speakers from a variety of universities who will help you think critically and strategically about the academic profession.

Confirmed guests include: Linda Bree (Cambridge UP), Ivan Kreilkamp (Indiana U), Mary-Elizabeth Leighton (U Victoria, Canada), Catherine Robson (NYU), Lisa Surridge (U Victoria, Canada) and Marlene Tromp (Arizona SU).

Nota bene:  Participation in the workshop will include accommodation in NYU dorm housing just a stone’s throw from the famous Duomo in downtown Florence.  Accommodation from May 14-22 (i.e., also for the days of the conference) will be included in the charge for the workshop (which will be much less than it would normally cost to stay in Florence for that many nights).

Questions can be directed to Dino Franco Felluga (Purdue U).
